Nepal Adventure Tour itinerary

The Nepal adventure tour for 10 days begins in the bustling capital city of Kathmandu, where travelers are greeted with the warm hospitality of the Nepali people. The city is a melting pot of ancient history, culture, and modern-day life, offering a unique blend of traditional and contemporary experiences.

The highlights of the Kathmandu tour involve a visit to the UNESCO World Heritage sites, such as the Monkey Temple, Pashupatinath Temple, Boudhanath Stupa, and Bhaktapur Durbar Square. These historical sites have seen the test of time and now stand as great monuments with significant history and value to Nepali people.

After exploring Kathmandu, the journey continues to the city of lakes, Pokhara. Located in the foothills of the Annapurna range, Pokhara is a hub for adventure and leisure activities. The city boasts stunning views of the western Himalayan mountains, along with several beautiful lakes, caves, and waterfalls.

But before you reach Pokhara, we will take you for thrilling white-water rafting on the Trishuli River. It will be a couple of hour's trip down the rushing river. In Pokhara, you will explore the famous Phewa Lake, the World Peace Pagoda, Davis Falls, Gupteshwor Mahadev Cave, etc.

From Pokhara onwards, the tour lets you be in nature and wilds more than amidst historical sites. This part of the tour involves a moderate hike to a popular viewpoint, Poon Hill. From Pokhara, you will drive to picturesque Ghandruk (2012m.|6601ft.) and trek to Tadapani (2630m.|8628ft.) to spend the night.

Trekking through lush rhododendron forests and small villages, enjoying a glimpse of snow-capped mountains, you will hike to Ghorepani village (2860m.|9380ft.). The next day, you will follow the lead of your guide to Poon Hill (3210m.|10529ft.), from where you can behold a glorious sunrise.

The majestic western Himalayan mountains will be in front of your eyes dominating the skyline. Mountains like Annapurna (8091m.|26545ft.), Dhaulagiri (8167m.|26795ft.), Nilgiri (7061m.|23166ft.), Hiunchuli (6441m.|21132ft.), Gangapurna (7455m.|24459ft.), Tukuche (6920m.|22703ft.), Fishtail (6993m.|22943ft.), etc are visible.

After enjoying the view, trek down to Ulleri (1970m.|6462ft.) and drive back to Pokhara. The trek to Poon Hill is a moderate hike, which is accessible to people of all ages and fitness levels, making it a great option for families and solo travelers.

But the Poon Hill trek is not just about the stunning scenery. Along the way, travelers have the opportunity to interact with locals, learn about their customs and traditions, and gain insight into the daily lives of people living in the mountains.

After the Poon Hill hike, the Nepal adventure tour continues to Chitwan National Park. Now it is time to get close to wild animals, exotic birds, and diverse vegetation. The park is home to a variety of animal and plant species, including the endangered one-horned rhinoceros, tigers, elephants, and many bird species.

Your time in Chitwan involves jungle safari, where travelers have the opportunity to spot these animals in their natural habitat. The safari is conducted on a 4x4 vehicle, giving travelers a chance to get up close and personal with the wildlife.

But the adventure in Chitwan is not just limited to the safari. Travelers also have the opportunity to visit the Tharu village, where they can learn about the traditional way of life of the Tharu people and witness their unique stick dance performances.

Useful Info

Best time to go on the Nepal adventure tour

Generally, the best time to visit Nepal is during the autumn season from September to November, or the spring season from March to May. Autumn has clear and dry weather. The climate is mild, making it perfect for activities such as exploring historical sites and trekking. And the views of the mountains during this season are spectacular due to the clear skies.

Likewise, in the spring season, the weather is warm, and the flowers are in full bloom, making it a great

time to experience the natural beauty of Nepal. The climate is also ideal for outdoor activities such as rafting, jungle safari, and hiking. During the winter season, from December to February, it can get quite cold, especially in the higher altitudes. However, this is also a great time to tour and trek in Nepal if you are not bothered by the cold and love winter landscapes.

Food and Accommodation during the tour

In Kathmandu, Pokhara, and Chitwan, we will use a tourist standard hotel. You will get private rooms with attached washrooms in all the cities with modern amenities. This package includes twin shared rooms, however, you can also opt for single rooms for which single supplementary charge is applied.

Likewise, during Poon Hill trekking, we will book the available lodges along the trail. The rooms will be small in size. Any additional service like hot shower, charging, WiFi, etc will cost you a few extra bucks. The rooms will be comfortable and clean.

While exploring cities, you will have a wide range of food options to indulge in. We will also taste a lot of Nepali dishes, and you will get ample opportunities to dine as per your wish. We have two compliment dinners in Kathmandu (welcome & farewell dinners).

During the trek, we highly recommend you have dal bhat (rice and lentil soup with veggies) as your main meal of the day. It will provide you with the needed energy and nutrients for the trek. You will also have other food options like momo, thukpa, thenduk, roti, curries, sandwich, burger, soups, porridge, etc.

Poon hill trek difficulty & altitude sickness

The Poon Hill trek is moderate. It is suitable for people with a reasonable level of fitness. The trek takes you through beautiful forests and picturesque villages and offers stunning views of the Annapurna mountain range. However, as with any trek in Nepal, it's important to be aware of the risks of altitude sickness.

The highest point on the Poon Hill trek is at an altitude of 3,210 meters (10,531 feet). While this is not considered a high altitude, you still have to take precautions to prevent altitude sickness. Take your time, ascend slowly, and acclimatize properly before reaching higher altitudes. Likewise, stay hydrated and avoid alcohol and smoking.

Altitude sickness can be a serious condition. Be aware of the symptoms. Some common symptoms of altitude sickness include headaches, nausea, fatigue, and difficulty sleeping. If you experience any of these symptoms, inform your guide and take the necessary steps to prevent the condition from worsening.

Overall, in terms of difficulty, the Poon Hill trek is considered moderate, and most people with a reasonable level of fitness should be able to complete it. The trek is approximately 32 kilometers (20 miles) long. The trail is well-marked, and there are plenty of guesthouses and lodges along the way for accommodation and meals.

Permits required for Nepal adventure tour

Our Nepal adventure tour package covers all the permits needed during the journey, including the Poon Hill trek permits. Our team will pre-arrange all permits for you. During the tour, you will need different entry permits to enter historical sites, museums, and Chitwan National Park. The Poon Hill trek requires a TIMS Card and an Annapurna Conservation Area Project permit.

Do you need travel insurance for this tour?

While travel insurance is not mandatory for the Kathmandu Pokhara Chitwan tour with the Poon Hill hike, it is highly recommended. Travel insurance can provide valuable protection in case of unexpected situations such as accidents, medical emergencies, trip cancellations or delays, lost or stolen luggage, and more.

Medical emergencies can be particularly expensive, and without travel insurance, you could be left with significant out-of-pocket expenses. In addition, some medical facilities in Nepal may require upfront payment before providing treatment.

Travel insurance can also provide peace of mind in case of unforeseen circumstances that may cause you to cancel or interrupt your trip. For example, if you or a family member falls ill before your trip or if there is a natural disaster or political unrest in the area, travel insurance can help you recover your non-refundable expenses.

When purchasing travel insurance, be sure to read the policy carefully and understand the coverage and limitations. Make sure to compare policies from different providers to find the one that best suits your needs and budget.

How are communication, charging, and hot shower facilities along the trekking route?

Along the Poon Hill trekking route, communication, charging, and hot shower facilities are available, but they may be limited or unreliable in some areas and needs additional cost to be paid by yourself.

Communication facilities such as Wi-Fi and mobile networks are available in most lodges and teahouses along the trekking route. However, the quality of the signal may vary. Be prepared for unreliable connectivity or slow internet speeds.

Charging facilities are also available in most lodges and teahouses. Most places charge a small fee for charging your devices. The cost may vary depending on the location.

Likewise, hot shower facilities are available in most places. In some areas, hot water may need to be heated manually, which can take some time. Check with your guide or the guesthouse owner in advance to confirm the availability of hot shower facilities.

Nepal Travel Visa

To travel to Nepal, most foreigners require a visa. The process for obtaining a Nepal travel visa is straightforward and can be done either online or upon arrival at the airport in Nepal.

For those who wish to obtain a visa upon arrival, you will need to fill out a visa application form and provide a passport-sized photo and the visa fee in cash. Visa fees vary depending on the length of stay and nationality, but typically range from USD 30 to USD 150.

If you prefer to obtain a visa before your trip, you can apply online through the Nepalese embassy or consulate in your home country. Processing times and requirements may vary depending on the embassy, so it's important to check with them in advance.

Money Exchange

When it comes to money exchange, the official currency of Nepal is the Nepalese rupee (NPR). Money exchange services are available at the airport and in major cities and tourist areas, and most hotels and restaurants accept major credit cards.

Smaller shops and restaurants may only accept cash, so it's always a good idea to have some local currency on hand. We also recommended carrying small bills, as some vendors may not be able to provide change for larger bills. When exchanging money, use authorized money exchange services to avoid scams or counterfeit bills.

    Unforgettable Nepal Experience

My trip to Nepal is one that I will never forget and a big part of it was due to Nepal Nirvana Trails. For my first solo travel experience as a female, I naturally had some anxiety leading up to the trip. Working with Nepal Nirvana was the best decision that I could have made. KP provided excellent recommendations, checked in throughout the entire trip, and the guides took such great care of me.
Prior to arriving in the country, I had booked the Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek. On the first day, I met with KP to sit down and talk through other activities that I could do during my stay. He worked with me to build in free days to best suit my needs. I spent the first few days in Kathmandu sightseeing the temples, a morning flight to Everest, and hiking to Nagarkot with my excellent guide, Deepak. All wonderful recommendations made by Nepal Nirvana.
From there I went to Chitwan for two days to watch the wildlife. We went on a fun canoe trip to see the crocodiles and several bird species. In the afternoon was a jeep safari where we saw rhinos, deer, and elephants. The Unique Wild Resort where we stayed was very clean and quiet.
Lastly, I traveled to Pokhara for the Ghorepani Poon Hill trek. My guide Bhim, the mountain man himself, took great care of me along the way. His English was limited, but he made up for it with his continuous laughter, positive attitude, and great dance moves. The trek was challenging for me, and Bhim was very understanding to take several breaks and always make sure that I was feeling okay. Also, make sure to try the Mustang coffee!
My experience in Nepal was unforgettable and I am forever thankful to Nepal Nirvana Trails for their service!

    Excellent Kathmandu based trekking agency

Recently completed a fantastic custom trek with Nepal Nirvana Trails in the Annapurna area. From the planning stages while we were in the US and throughout the trek the experience with Nepal Nirvana Trails was outstanding. I so appreciated all of the customer service provided by the Director K.P. Dhital. He met with us by video call while we were home in the U.S. and planned a great program taking into account our trekking desires. The customers needs are first with K.P.! He took care of every detail, paired us with the perfect guide for us, Bhim Tamang and made sure every aspect of our trek went smoothly. We are now working with KP to design a second trek to compliment the first one in another area of Nepal.

    Dear Marsha, Namaste!
Thank you so much for reviewing our service via TripAdvisor. We are pleased that you are satisfied with our services at the customized trek to Poonhill with guide Bhim. We hope to satisfy you equally in your next trek.
    Best regards,
