Limi Valley Trek
Limi Valley Trek
You arrive in Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal. This day is mainly for rest after your flight. You may meet your trekking team, check equipment, and go over final preparations.
Today is a preparation and briefing day. Your permits for the restricted area (Humla/Limi region) are finalized. The guide checks logistics, camping gear, food supplies, and flight confirmations.
A short scenic flight takes you to Nepalgunj in the lowlands of western Nepal. The climate is much hotter and more humid here. You stay overnight in a hotel. This is a transit point before flying into the mountains.
This is a very important mountain flight into the Humla district. Simikot is the gateway to the far-western Himalayas. As soon as you land, you feel the change in altitude and remoteness. You can set up your first night of camping here or stay in the basic lodge, depending on the arrangement. Final porters may also join here.
Your trekking begins. The trail descends through small villages and river valleys. You pass farmlands, suspension bridges, and scattered settlements. First proper full camping experience in the wilderness, with tents set near a river or open meadow.
A gradual uphill trek through pine forests and hillside villages. Kermi is known for its natural hot springs, so if conditions allow, you may get a chance to relax after trekking. Camp is set near the village or riverbank.
The trail becomes more remote and rugged. You move deeper into upper Humla landscapes. Fewer villages, more open valleys and yak pastures. Camping is completely isolated here, surrounded by mountains.
A scenic trekking day passing through Muchu village, one of the culturally important settlements. You continue along the Humla Karnali valley. Camp is set near Tumkot, a quiet highland village with strong Tibetan influence.
A steady uphill climb as you gain altitude. The landscape becomes drier and more alpine. You will notice prayer flags, chortens, and traditional stone houses. Yari is an important stop before heading toward the border region.
A shorter but significant day. You trek toward Hilsa, which lies close to the Nepal–Tibet border. This area is remote and windy. You may see occasional trade activity depending on season. Camp is set in a very exposed high-altitude terrain.
Now you enter true high-altitude wilderness. The trail is quiet, with dramatic mountain scenery and very few signs of settlement. Your body begins to feel the altitude more strongly. Camp is cold at night.
A slightly descending day to help acclimatization. You pass open valleys and yak grazing areas. Tiljung is a peaceful camping area surrounded by hills and rocky terrain.
Halji is one of the most culturally important villages in the Limi Valley. You will see ancient monasteries, traditional stone houses, and strong Tibetan Buddhist culture. This is a fascinating cultural camping stop.
The trek continues deeper into the Limi Valley. The terrain becomes more rugged and dramatic. Dzang is a high settlement area with very limited human presence and strong mountain atmosphere.
A challenging high-altitude day. You gradually enter near-alpine and glacial landscapes. Camp at Talun is extremely remote, surrounded by massive peaks and open wilderness. Nights are very cold here.
This is the toughest day of the trek. You start early and climb steadily up to Nyalu La Pass , the highest point of the journey. The ascent is steep and challenging due to the altitude, but the views from the top are spectacular, with wide Himalayan panoramas. After a short rest, you begin a long descent down to Salli Khola where your campsite is set. It’s a very demanding but unforgettable day.
A big descent back into lower valleys. The air becomes warmer and richer in oxygen. You return gradually to forested areas and villages. Camping is more comfortable again.
This is the final trekking day. You walk back to Simikot, completing the circuit loop. This feels emotional as you return to the starting point after a remote wilderness journey. You may have a camp or lodge stay in Simikot.
You take a scenic flight out of the mountains back to Nepalgunj, then connect to Kathmandu. The trekking journey ends, and you return to city comfort after almost three weeks in remote Himalayan wilderness.
