The Off-the-beaten-path trekking trail offers a blend of nature and a fascinating culture. The trekking trail takes you along the pine, juniper forests, waterfalls, rushing rivers, caves, and paths guided by rhododendron trees.

The Tsum Valley trek was a restricted area until 2008. The trekking path is not popular as Everest Base Camp and Annapurna Base Camp. The Tsum Valley trek begins driving along the countryside via the Daraudi River, enjoying the scenic views from Kathmandu to Barpak, Gurung village in the west-north Gorkha. Larpak and Khorlabase are gateways to Tsum valley trek and Manaslu Circuit Trek. Leaving the Manaslu trail behind, you enter the Tsum valley. The largest and oldest monastery in the region is Mu Gompa. You can view the mesmerizing views of Ganesh Himal, Siring Himal, and Himal chuli, Buddha Himal en route to Tsum Valley.

Barpak

Barpak is the Gurung village in the northern part of Gorkha. With nearly 15 thousand populations Barpak is the largest Gurung village of Nepal. The Gurung of the Barpak fought bravely in World War I and made the name British Gurkhas famous in the world. Barpak used to be the trading trail between Tibetans and the Newars of Kathmandu.

Barpak was the epicenter of the massive earthquake on 25th April 2015, which caused tremendous loss to the Nepalese families. The traditional houses have been destroyed in the earthquake and rebuilt now and have been a model village worth visiting over Nepal.

Tsum Valley

Tsum Valley is the hidden valley in the Manaslu Region. Among the thousands of trekking trails, Tsum Valley Trek is one of the most stunning treks and has fewer risks for high altitude sickness. The inhabitants of this region are the Tibetans, so to explore the Tibetan culture, you should visit Tsum Valley. You can see several Mani walls, Chortens, monasteries, and gompas in the trails of the Tsum valley trek. Tsum valley trek is the trek for culture with nature lovers.

Best Time to Tsum Valley Trek

You can do Tsum Valley Trek even in the summer season, but the best time to Tsum Valley Trek is Mid-September to Mid-December and March to May.

Nepal Nirvana representative will meet you at Tribhuvan International Airport and take you to the hotel, establishment in the heart of Thamel like Hotel Vistara or Similar You should mostly use this day to relax and recuperate from your travel. A briefing regarding the hike and last-minute equipment checks will take place in the evening.

After an early breakfast, you’ll begin your journey with a 7 to 8-hour public bus ride heading northwest out of the Kathmandu Valley. The road winds through hills, villages, and terraced fields as you approach Gorkha district. Your destination is Barpak, a beautiful Gurung village that was the epicenter of the 2015 earthquake. Now mostly restored, the town has sweeping vistas of the Himalayas and surrounding lush landscapes. You will spend the night in a nearby guesthouse. Those who choose the executive option can travel in a private jeep for extra comfort, more flexible travel times, and the chance to see beautiful places.

The start of your journey is today. The trail winds through woodlands and hillside communities after a strenuous ascent over stone stairways. The walk offers breathtaking views of Ganesh Himal and Buddha Himal. The panorama becomes more vast and calm as you ascend in altitude. This alternative route avoids the crowded Budhi Gandaki trail and immerses you in the heart of local hill life. You will spend the night at a local guesthouse in the traditional Gurung village of Laprak after a 4- to 6-hour hike.

The trail progressively descends after leaving Laprak, passing over suspension bridges and through verdant forests. Singla village, which provides breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains, will be on your route. Following a midday meal in the a settlement, the track drops significantly in the direction of the Budhi Gandaki River, where it intersects with the main Manaslu trekking route. As you get closer to Khorlabesi, a riverbank community where you'll spend the night, the route gets rougher. The hike takes roughly six to seven hours each day.

The trip continues ahead along the Budhi Gandaki today, traversing rocky pathways and passing through breathtaking gorges. You'll cross multiple streams on slender wood bridges and climb high stone ladders. Following Machha Khola and Labishe, a Gurung village, the trail winds through a narrow ravine with more vegetation and sporadic views of Ganesh and Shringi Himal. You will arrive at the culturally diverse village of Philim after 6 to 7 hours of hiking, where you will stay overnight in a guesthouse.

The trek heads north out of Philim into the less-visited Tsum Valley. The trail offers peace and quiet as it meanders through lovely rhododendron and pine trees. There are some difficult climbs on the trail, but as you cross a well-constructed bridge, the scenery opens up to reveal breathtaking views of the Himalchuli peak (7893m). You can unwind and enjoy the evening in Chumling, a typical Tibetan-style village, which is reached by following the trail. The hike takes roughly six to seven hours. Accommodation is basic but clean, with optional hot showers available upon extra cost at selected teahouses.

You will hike further into the Tsum Valley today. After across a suspension bridge, you climb toward Gho and Chhokangparo after briefly descending near Rainjam village and Dhampa Gompa. From here, the trail gently climbs while offering breathtaking views of the high plateaus on one side and Ganesh Himal on the other. With chortens, mani walls, and prayer flags flapping in the mountain wind, the route offers a culturally enriching experience. You arrive in Lamagaon, a peaceful community with simple teahouses for the night, after roughly six hours.

Today is a day of exploration. After an early breakfast, you climb down the upper Tsum Valley toward Nile and Mu Gompa, the largest monastery in the region. Mu Gompa is located close to the Tibetan border, under rocky cliffs with rows of colourful chortens. The trail offers sweeping views of snow-capped peaks as it gradually climbs. You can join the monks in a brief blessing ceremony if time permits. You spend the night in Lamagaon after touring the monastery. The entire hike takes five to seven hours to complete.

You start downhill from the upper Tsum Valley. You can take a different path via Ripchet to experience a variety of scenery, or continue on via little Tibetan settlements on the way back. The hike provides one last opportunity to experience the Tsum Valley's spiritual tranquility. You arrive in Lokpa, where you will spend the night in a guesthouse, after descending for roughly six to seven hours via terraced fields and wooded areas.

After Philim, the track retraces your travels through the mountains and woodlands along the Budhi Gandaki River. The trail is lined with suspension bridges, waterfalls, and peaceful rural communities. The hike today is quite easy as you return to the lower Manaslu region and reduce elevation. After six to seven hours of hiking, you arrive at Jagat and check into a guesthouse. For greater transportation access the next day, you could instead proceed to Machhakhola if you have the time and stamina.

Your trekking excursion ends with a long drive back to Kathmandu (1400m) or Pokhara (800m), depending on your post-trip preferences. Using public transportation, the trip takes roughly nine to ten hours. You can choose to travel more quickly and comfortably by using a private jeep (USD 200 total from Machhakhola to Kathmandu or Pokhara).

Today is designated for relaxation, shopping, and exploration. You may tour UNESCO World Heritage Sites like Bhaktapur, Swayambhunath, and Boudhanath in Kathmandu. Phewa Lake, Peace Pagoda, and lounging at lakeside cafés are some of Pokhara's most visited attractions. For those who are interested, spa, massage, or cultural visits can be scheduled. Overnight stay in a hotel is included with breakfast.
