Moreover, Kala Patthar offers a surreal mountain landscape and one of the best Everest views.

Soon, other eastern Himalayan mountains like Kongde Ri (6,187m.|20,299ft.), Khumbi La (5,761m.|18,901ft.), Thamserku (6,608m.|21,680ft.), Mera Peak (6,476m.|21,247ft.), etc begin to unfold. You'll land at Lukla to refuel the helicopter before flying towards the Everest base camp (5,364m.|17,598ft.). The landing time is 15 to 20 minutes. During this period, you can stretch your body and look around one of the highest airports in the world at 2,860m.|9,380ft.

Land at Kala Patthar

From Lukla airport, it takes around 15 to 20 minutes to reach Kala Patthar (5,545m.|18,192ft.). If necessary, you'll be landing at Pheriche (4,371m.|14,340ft.) to maintain the weight of the shuttle. The flight will be fantastic. You can see the gorgeous views of verdant valleys and rivers from the air. Fly over the picturesque Sherpa villages, lush forests, and terraced fields. The giant snow-capped mountains begin to get prominent.

Kala Patthar is at the whooping height of 5,545 meters. It is also one of the highest points of Everest base camp trekking. Kala Patthar is famous for its gorgeous sunrise and 360-degree mountain views from here. Landing at this elevation is quite challenging and staying more than 10 minutes may make you vulnerable to altitude sickness. And we don't want our guests to suffer from altitude sickness.

Similarly, the pilot cannot turn off the engines of the helicopter at this point. Once the engine turns off, it's close to impossible to turn it on. Therefore, given all these reasons, you'll get 10 minutes to enjoy the views at Kala Patthar. The view of Mt. Everest (8,848.86m.|29,031ft.) is phenomenal from this point. Along with it, you'll get to witness many other mountain tops from Kala Patthar. The clouds and the cold air will make the experience heavenly.

Fly over Khumbu Glacier and Everest Base Camp

Upon returning from Kala Patthar, we take a detour over the Everest base camp, Khumbu glacier, and Khumbu icefall. The aerial view of the base camp and glaciers is fantastic. Mountains like Everest  (8,848.86m.|29,031ft.), Lhotse (8,516m.|27,940ft.), Nuptse (7,861m.|25,791ft.), Cho Oyu (8,188 m.|26,864ft.), Makalu (8,481m.|27,825ft.), Chamlang (7,319m.|24,012ft.), Ama Dablam (6,812m.|22,349ft.), Island Peak (6,160m.|20,210ft.), Pumori (7,161m.|23,494ft.), etc are vividly seen during the helicopter flight.

Many people from around the world trek in the Khumbu region every year but only a handful of them get to witness the aerial view of the Khumbu region, which makes the Everest base camp helicopter tour very special. The bird's-eye perspective of frozen streams, moraines, glaciers, and deep valleys adds more depth to the Everest helicopter tour.

Enjoy a delicious breakfast at Hotel Everest View before flying back to Kathmandu

How can we end our trip without a good meal? Usually, trekkers spend an acclimatization day in Namche Bazaar and hike to this hotel to adapt to the elevation. The breakfast will be freshly cooked and served. You can choose between western and Nepali breakfast as per your liking. You get to see the view of Mt. Everest with others right in front of you on a clear day.

Useful Info

Packing List for Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour

The Khumbu region is cold throughout the year. Yes, the temperature fluctuates from lower elevation to upper elevation. But as you are not trekking and instead flying to the base camp, you'll have less chance to feel a warm temperature. The exposure to the sun does let you embrace the warmth alongside the cold wind. Overall, you'll need some warm layers and protection from UV rays.

Below we have mentioned the packing list for the Everest Base Camp helicopter tour with landing:

  • Windproof down jacket
  • Full-sleeve shirts
  • Warm pair of trousers
  • Silk/Nylon scarf
  • UV protection sunglasses
  • Lip balm and moisturizer
  • Toiletries
  • A water bottle
  • Camera essentials

*Note: We encourage you to keep your luggage as light as possible because it may unnecessarily increase the weight. Carry only essentials.

Best time for Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour with Landing Flight

The Everest region is located at a high altitude, and because of the location and the elevation, the weather is very unpredictable. There can be a sudden change in weather. You can face rainfall out of the blue, in the lower part of the trail and snowfall, in the upper part of the trail.

One thing that makes the Everest base camp helicopter tour very special is even with the slight weather changes in the city area, there will be clear weather in the mountains so, we can do the tour. But it can turn another way anytime and if the weather is way too unstable then, of course, we'll rearrange the heli flight, but in small cases, we do not have to cancel the tour. It's only a few hours of excursion, so the helicopter tour does not get that disturbed.

Spring (March to May) and autumn (September to December) are the best time to do the Everest helicopter tour. The sky is not foggy, and the visibility is clear in these two seasons, which makes them perfect for a helicopter tour. The mountains are seen vividly, and you get to enjoy the view to its fullest. The temperature ranges from 18°C to 5°C. You do not have to pack heavy clothes. One layer of the warm piece will be enough.

Likewise, flying in summer/monsoon and winter is not great because of continuous unstable weather. The EBC helicopter tour may get delayed and canceled in worse cases. You may not get to land if the weather changes just before landing. June to September and January to February are off months for doing any sort of activities in the Himalayas. The cloudy sky hides the view and overall helicopter tour experience.

Safety Rules and Travel Tips for Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour

Before you board the helicopter, the flight instructor will give you a small briefing about the tour and things you shouldn't do during the flight. • Do not smoke inside the helicopter.
  • Keep yourself hydrated, and do not litter inside the shuttle.
  • Use UV ray protective sunscreen and balm.
  • Put on the seatbelt properly.
