The 5-day Annapurna Base Camp trek is a fast-track trekking plan for physically fit travelers who expect to see the magnificent base camp and walk on the most thrilling trails in the mid-Himalayan region despite your limited time for hiking Short Annapurna Base Camp trek is specially created for you.

The walk offers all the excitement and entertainment of hiking to Annapurna Base Camp. You will be provided with all necessary amenities, but you must be prepared for a daily 6-7 hour trek.

Annapurna Base Camp Trek Route

The 5-day long Annapurna Base Camp trek will begin from Pokhara. We will drive to Nayapul from Pokhara early in the morning and will have a few hours of hiking to Chhommrong on the first day. We will have 6-7 hours of trek to Himalaya Hotel from Chhomrong on the second day and will reach the ABC on the third day via Machhapuchhre Base Camp. We will be descending towards Sinuwa on the fourth day and will return to Pokhara via Jhinudanda on the fifth day.

Day to Day Details

You will meet your guide at the hotel/hostel you stay in Pokhara at 7:30 am. You will begin the journey from the hotel/airport by private jeep with a magnificent drive over a range of sparkling silver mountains and green rolling hills. The jeep ride to Siwai/Matque takes about 3 to 4 hours and the walk afterward is breathtaking. The journey continues through a thin forest and terraced farms before crossing a long suspension bridge to reach Jhinu Danda. We might have a short tea break or Lunch at Jhinu Danda. If you are interested you can also visit the Hot Spring in Jhinu Danda. From Jhinu, the trail now ascends directly to Chhomrong via innumerable stairs.

After breakfast at Chhomrong, we descend the stone staircase to Chhomrong Khola and traverse the suspension bridge. We will then ascend following the stone steps to the small village of Sinuwa, passing through terraced farmland and lush hills. Sinuwa provides a breathtaking up-close view of Mount Fishtail. Leaving the trail of Sinuwa behind, we will descend to the town of Bamboo before climbing to Dovan via a thick bamboo, rhododendron, and oak forest. From Dovan, we proceed through Modi Khola Valley till we arrive at the Himalaya Hotel. You will pass by the cascading waterfall and the sacred Barah Temple, before reaching the Himalaya. The village is still the viewpoint that provides the best view of Mount Fishtail.

We trek today from the Himalaya Hotel to ABC. The trail initially climbs steadily to Hinku Cave, then we will walk downhill and uphill reaching Deurali. Straight and uphill-downhill, the route from Deurali towards MBC have some areas with high landslide risk, especially in the Spring Season there is an alternative route. From Deurali, cautiously navigating the stones and pastureland along Modi Khola, we will arrive at MBC. The trail then ascends to ABC from MBC and offers a breathtaking 360-degree panorama of multiple snow-capped peaks, including Gangapurna, Annapurna III, Machhapuchre, Gandharva Chuli, Annapurna South, Annapurna I, Tent Peak, etc. We arrive at ABC (4,130m on Mt. Annapurna's loop, 8091m.|26554ft.) after a couple of hours of ascent from MBC.

We prepare for the breathtaking dawn above Mount Annapurna by rising early in the morning. After experiencing ABC's spell-binding moment, we will have our breakfast and go down to Bamboo by retracing the path. We go from Bamboo through a few hours of dense woodland before arriving in Sinuwa, where we will spend the night.

After breakfast, we proceed to Chhomrong through a steep stone staircase, a deep forest, and a suspension bridge over the Chhomrong Khola. Along Modi Khola, the route connecting Chhomrong to Sewai has inclined. The trail takes us to Siwai/Matque from where we take a vehicle back to Pokhara. You will arrive at Pokhara around 5 - 6 pm.

Altitude Sickness 

Altitude Sickness is something we don’t want to happen during treks to high elevations. The Annapurna Base Camp elevates 4130 meters from sea level, considered a comparatively low risk for altitude sickness, but we never know when unforeseen risk arises. Our team will be there with you to accompany you while walking to higher altitudes and consistently take care of you during the trip. 

Annapurna Base Camp Difficulty 

Annapurna Base Camp does not fall into the category of a difficult trekking region. It is a moderate trek. As soon as you start your journey, you will walk on a rough and rugged road, which can create difficulty walking. If you are used to walking in, you can take a good speed. The trail begins from Chomrong, Sinuwa, Bamboo, Dovan, and the Himalaya hotel over a suspension bridge, a dense rhododendron forest. This area is avalanche and landslide-prone, so you should be cautious while walking.

Accommodation 

The ascent to Annapurna Base Camp passes through an area with tea houses. There are a variety of tea shops along the route for your convenience. Unlike the newly opened trails, you can get a comfortable room to take a rest and enjoy the internet facility too.

Food

The food service in the Annapurna Trekking region is A-rated. There is various type of food available. It is well known that tea houses in Annapurna Base Camp serve pizza. The food you will get during the trekking will be hygienic and nutritious. You will have a wide range of options. There will be an open menu so that you can choose the food of your choice. There will be an option of leaving the ingredient to which you are restricted and allergic. You can get vegan options as well if you want to. 

Best Time To Trek

Annapurna Base Camp region is not that difficult and applies to trek at any month of the year. But to have the best trekking experience and sightseeing with the best views from the trail, Spring(Mar-May) and Autumn(Sep-Nov) are considered the best seasons. 

The most suitable time of year to hike in the Himalayas is in the autumn since the weather is pleasant and the clear skies allow you to enjoy the breathtaking sights of the snow-covered mountains to their utmost. Since autumn is also a festival season in Nepal, there is a buzz of domestic travel and exhibitions of indigenous culture. During your walk, you can have the opportunity to participate in the Hindu Festivals of Dashain and Tihar.

Spring Season is another better season to trek in this season. After the winter has passed, the weather begins to warm up, making it safe to go on a journey without worrying about bad experiences. The sky is clear, the weather prediction is steady, and we can see the mountains in the distance.

Communication Services

The Annapurna Trekking area has easy access to telecommunications services, including phone and SMS services, through several mobile networks like Namaste and Ncell. The teahouses charge more for internet service. If you need to, you can always utilize mobile data.

Annapurna Base Camp trekking permit costs

You require an Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP) and a Trekker Information Management System (TIMS) card to hike to the Annapurna Base Camp region.

ACAP costs NPR 3000 for every other national and NPR 1000 for SAARC citizens.

For TIMS, all foreign nationals have to pay NPR 2000.
