Gosaikunda Lake Trek 5 days is an adventurous and little demanding trek in the Himalayas. Instead of following the bustling Langtang Valley Trek route, you ascend to Foprang Danda from Syabrubesi and continue trekking towards Gosaikunda Lake via Laurebina. It is a short trek for trekkers looking for a quick thrill in the Langtang region.

You will be trekking in the Langtang National Park. The trail goes through dense forests of rhododendron and bamboo. The suspension & wooden bridges, waterfalls, streams, meadows, and small settlement areas make the Gosaikunda Trek route fantastic. Moreover, our Gosaikunda Trek itinerary has a gentle ascend and balanced rise in elevation that will keep trekkers away from altitude sickness.

Gosaikunda Lake

Before we talk in detail about the views you get to see during Gosaikunda Lake Trekking, we want to talk about the lake. Gosaikunda Lake (4,380m.|14,370ft.) is a sacred lake with significant religious importance to Hindus and Buddhists. It is a freshwater lake and was also declared a Ramsar site in 2007.

The Hindu mythology suggests that Gosaikunda Lake is the abode of the God Shiva and Gauri. And not only that, the lake itself was formed because the lord Shiva thrust his trident into the mountain to extract the water to drink.

On the day of Janai Purnima, the full moon in August, pilgrims from many parts of the world gather here to worship and take bath in the holy lake. Around the lake, there are small shrines and stupas.

Views during the Gosaikunda Lake Trek

On this 5-day Gosaikunda Trek, we witness numerous snow-capped mountains, including the Langtang Lirung (7,234m.|23,733ft.), Yara Peak (6,236m.|20,459ft.), Ganesh Himal (7,422m.|24,350ft.), Gauri Sankar (7,134m.|23,405ft.), Shishapangma (8,027m.|26,335ft.), Kang Guru (6,981m.|22,903ft.), etc. Apart from the mountains, the trek offers jaw-dropping scenery and stunning views of glaciers.

The lovely forests, green meadows, and fine mountain villages with several chortens, prayer wheels, and prayer flags decorate the trekking route. Similarly, at Gosaikunda Lake, you can spend time soaking in the soothing views of the surrounding mountains and hills.

Gosaikunda Lake Trek is difficult. The trail steeply ascends through remote villages and dense forests. The villages have a very basic accommodation facility with limited services, so trekking becomes more arduous.

Likewise, the terrain is rough and steep. You cross a high pass. Long trekking hours are needed on a daily basis. Overall, we recommend the Gosaikunda trek to a fit individual who has some kind of previous trekking/hiking experience.

Altitude Sickness

Gosaikunda Lake Trek ascends above 4,000 meters. The elevation rise is not too much, and the trail has a gentle pace. So, trekkers get adequate time to relax and adjust to the altitude. Still, if you see any symptoms like headache, difficulty in breathing, insomnia, loss of appetite, etc make sure to inform your guide and take precautions.

One thing you can do is drop to a lower altitude and altitude sickness medicine. Keep yourself hydrated throughout the trek. At least drink 2 liters of water every day. Likewise, refrain from drinking alcoholic drinks and smoking while trekking.
