    Useful Info

Best Time for 2 Days Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek

Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek is suitable throughout the year. However, there are two major seasons with clear skies and the most beautiful vistas, which are spring and autumn, making those times the finest for hiking here.

Spring: The Floral Festival (March to May)

Spring is the magical season to experience the Poon Hill trek, when the Annapurna region awakens from its winter slumber under bright, clear skies. The forests burst into a riot of colour, with rhododendrons painting the trail in fiery reds, soft pinks, and delicate whites. Walking from Ulleri to Ghorepani feels like stepping through a living watercolour, where blossoms shimmer in the gentle breeze. Daytime temperatures are pleasantly mild, ranging from 10 °C to 20 °C, making the steep ascents comfortable. Mornings are crisp and clear, revealing golden sunrises over snow-capped peaks, while afternoons may bring fleeting showers and a delicate mountain haze. For nature lovers and photographers, spring offers the ultimate palette of Himalayan vibrancy and life.

Autumn: The Classic Panorama (September to November)

Autumn is widely regarded as the peak season for trekking in Nepal, offering ideal conditions for both adventure and photography. By mid-September, the monsoon rains have washed away the dust, leaving the air crisp, clean, and clear. On a good day, the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri massifs can be seen from over 100 miles away, their snow-capped peaks strikingly sharp against a deep, uninterrupted blue sky. The stable weather also brings the highest chance of cloud-free sunrises at Poon Hill, creating breathtaking 360-degree vistas and perfect conditions for long-range photography without any visual disturbances. Beyond the natural beauty, autumn coincides with Nepal’s most vibrant Hindu festivals, Dashain and Tihar, adding cultural charm to the season. With teahouses in high demand during this holiday period, early bookings are strongly recommended to secure accommodation.

Food and Accommodations during the Poon Hill Trek

    Food Facilities: A Himalayan Menu

The Poon Hill trek offers a surprisingly diverse and delicious culinary experience, even at high altitudes. The iconic dish is Dal Bhat, a wholesome, energy-packed meal of lentils, rice, and vegetables, light yet rich in carbohydrates and protein needed for trekking. At the traditional teahouses of Ghorepani, meals are hearty comfort foods designed to refuel tired bodies: think garlic soups steaming with flavour, warm bowls of vegetable noodles, fresh pasta, fluffy momos, cheesy mountain pizzas, and sweet apple pies. Breakfasts are equally satisfying, featuring Tibetan bread, golden pancakes, creamy porridge, and perfectly boiled eggs or omelettes. Most ingredients are sourced locally, while a few packaged items are carried up from Pokhara, making them more costly, but every bite is fresh, authentic, and made with Himalayan care.

    Accommodation Facilities: Mountain Teahouses

Accommodation in Ghorepani will be charming in family-run teahouses, which are essentially small mountain lodges. The rooms are typically modest but functional. The twin beds will be provided with thin mattresses, pillows, and blankets. Some teahouses will provide electrified blankets for a small additional fee as well. The heart of the teahouse is the communal dining hall, where you can reflect on your journey and share the experience with fellow trekkers. There will be a cosy area to socialise with others. The basic electricity for lighting will be provided in the bedroom and dining area. The charging, wi-fi and hot showers are usually available for a small additional fee. There will be a buzzing atmosphere in the teahouses during the peak season of Autumn or early May.

2 Day Poon Hill Trek Difficulties

    • We will have a rapid ascent from Pokhara(822m) to Ghorepani(2875m), and further to 3280m at Poonhill. This can be a physically straining journey.
    • The steep stone staircases of Ulleri will cause a bit of strain on your thighs and knees.
    • Mountain weather can become unpredictable and change rapidly at times. Always be cautious about the weather; the guide will be there to monitor.
    • We will have to walk for multiple hours, ascending and descending in this trek, which may cause physical fatigue.
